Col. Gregory "Pappy"
Boyington USMC
Commanding Officer VMF 214 otherwise known as
the Black Sheep Squadron
In World War II, Marine Corps Major Greg Boyington, nicknamed
"Pappy" because of his advanced age for a fighter pilot,
collected a squadron of misfits and screwballs who became the terrors of
the South Pacific.
These fighter pilots were known as "The Black Sheep." The
squadron had a dog that was a Bull Terrier.

 TV Series:
Black
Sheep Squadron
In 1976, a fine ensemble of actors lead by the equally charismatic
Robert Conrad, brought the exploits of the Black Sheep Squadron to the
small screen. Although the series lasted only two seasons, it
continues to live on in syndication.
